Beach Party Success!

AFC held one of its biggest events of the year on March 10: the Beach Party!! What a success it was! Approximately 220 children and their caregivers attended the event at a new venue, the Arlington Boys and Girls Club.

Keeping everyone busy, and smiling, were crafts, games, a DJ, Silly Willy the clown with his balloon designs and a pizza lunch. In addition, the children were mesmerized by the New England Aquarium’s traveling tidepool with live sea animals Children not only got to touch the animals but also learn a bit about them from the aquarium’s staff. A special thanks to Dr. Coppe’s Pediatric Dental Office for sponsoring this fun and educational activity.

Upstairs in the gym a DJ played fun and kid-friendly music for the kids to dance and play games. Arlington High School and International School of Boston student-volunteers ran other beach-themed games and crafts. Games included trying to knock down a stack of beach pails, kicking the soccer ball into the “hula net” and throwing hoops over dolphins’ heads. At the craft table children made octopuses out of bowls and ribbons, decorated beach scenes with stickers and created memorable ocean life scenes with stamps.

None of this would have been such a huge success without the generosity of Kevin Flood and the Arlington Boys and Girls Club. Kevin and his team were supportive every step of the way and we deeply appreciate their teaming up with us and offering their space for the party free of charge. To learn more about the Boys & Girls Club and their programming you can visit www.abgclub.org.

The party went off without a hitch thanks to all the hard work AFC volunteers put in beforehand and the day of. Special thanks to Erin Buchner for chairing the event and to Anne Dixon, Tracy Gianotti, Kerri Kivolowitz, Maeva Leroy, Stephanie Slonka, Anne Thomson and Toni Trainor for doing such a great job. Despite having young kids at home, they were able to give their time and energy to making sure it all come together.

Beach Party March 10 - But we need your help!

Our annual indoor beach party is coming on March 10 from 10:00am to 1:00pm, and the party has a new home! AFC is working with the Arlington Boys and Girls Club to produce the best beach party ever. Popular DJ Ed will be back.

But we need your help!

We are in a severe need of volunteers for planning and also need more help at the party. Planning committee members organize the crafts, entertainers, food, raffle, space-layout, task lists, budget and more.

Roles vary, but will require attendance at some planning meetings (about twice a month until the party) and completing assigned tasks. Most tasks can be done at your discretion, in terms of time of day/day of week.

Day-of volunteers help set-up and clean-up, assist with crafts, manage the flow of guests, and hand out food.

Please contact outings@arlingtonfamilyconnection.org if you are able to help out at the event. We want it to be a success!
